Here are DVD Talk's reviews of the latest theatrical releases: Foxcatcher - this picture relating the true history of Olympic athlete brothers Mark & David Schultza is great film whose story was portrayed by amazing actors; Leviathan (2014) - Director Andrey Zvyagintsev's latest film earned a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film... hopefully that will get as many eyes on it as possible since it deserves to be seen en masse; and Amira & Sam - in this romantic comedy writer/director Sean Mullin has crafted a pair of tremendously convincing characters that will surely resonate with audiences. Other recent films include: American Sniper, Inherent Vice, Into the Woods, The Imitation Game, Selma, Wild, The Babadook, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part I, Big Hero 6, Interstellar, The Theory of Everything, Birdman, Dracula Untold, Gone Girl. . TV on DVD: You're The Worst, Stingray, and Young Justice: Invasion
You're The Worst: The Complete First Season Some great TV shows have made their way onto DVD this week including: You're The Worst: The Complete First Season - This show is just pure fun to watch. The cast is smart and appealing. The humor is edgy and often tasteless, but this is a show that embraces sitcom formula as much as it subverts it; Stingray: The Complete Series - a Gerry Anderson "Supermarionation" show has imaginative sets, cool model work, and agreeably surrealistic situations that all combine for a fun program; and Young Justice: Invasion - this show is an incredible piece of art that was criminally cancelled before its time... it is chock full of excellently developed characters, terrific animation, fluid action sequences and the series has a wonderful story that is built up well throughout the 20 episodes. Other shows recently reviewed include:  Big Driver, Back In The Game: The Complete First Season, and The Mentalist: Season 6.  Want more?  Check out all of the TV on DVD reviews in the DVD Talk database.

DVD Savant: The Bride Wore Black, World for Ransom, and Breaking Away
The Bride Wore Black This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Bride Wore Black -François Truffaut's 'Hitchcock' picture really goes in its own direction to tell a stylized tale of cold revenge; World for Ransom - Robert Aldrich's first independent feature is a real mess cobbled out of the availability of the crew, star and studio set of a low-budg TV show, given a terrific premise (and title) but with real problems in the script and production department; and Breaking Away - Peter Yates's story of working-class high school graduates in a university town is a crowd-pleaser that plays even better now than it did in 1979. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVD Savant: 52 Pick-Up, The Night Porter, and Bloody Sunday
52 Pick-Up This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: 52 Pick-Up - Powerhouse director John Frankenheimer takes on Elmore Leonard's dark, dark tale of a philandering businessman (Roy Scheider) blackmailed by sleazy crooks from the porn industry; The Night Porter - It sounds like 'Nazista' trash -- an ex-concentration camp victim re-ignites an insane sadomasochistic relationship with her former captor, a sadistic SS officer -- but it's actually a reasoned examination of the sexual politics of Fascism done with class and taste; and Bloody Sunday - Before his Hollywood success writer-director Paul Greenglass took the big prize at Sundance with this convincing, compelling docudrama recreation of the 1972 Bloody Sunday Massacre in Derry, Northern Ireland. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

DVD Savant: Invaders from Mars, Ten Seconds to Hell, and Into the Woods
Invaders from Mars This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Ultimate Invaders from Mars Savant Article - Savant has rewritten and re-illustrated his two-part essay from 1999, that re-defined William Cameron Menzies' stealth masterpiece... the essays try to explain the visionary designs and radical editorial ideas in Menzies' film, which still has the power to freak kids out while introducing them to the wonderful world of futuristic paranoia; Ten Seconds to Hell - Exiled to Europe, tough-guy director Robert Aldrich takes his first project to Hammer Films, and makes a thriller about an irregular bomb disposal unit playing a suicide game in the ruins of Berlin. Six defusing experts agree to pool half their pay, the proceeds to be distributed three months later among those still living -- if any are; and Into the Woods (1990) - Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's show is funny, heartwarming and genuinely profound. Being the original, it's also uncut and un-adapted... offering viewers the ability to experience its full brilliance. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Inherit the Wind Our reviewers have been busy this week, filling the DVD Talk Review Database more great entries. Other recent reviews include: Lloyd's of London, The House at the End of Time, and Eclipse Series 41: Kinoshita and World War II.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

DVD Savant: The Boys from Brazil, Kinoshita, and The Package
The Boys from Brazil This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Boys from Brazil - Ira Levin's supermarket blockbuster becomes the lavishly filmed, embarrassingly tacky thriller in which Gregory Peck's aged Dr. Mengele seeks a fourth Reich by cloning a new Adolf Hitler; Kinoshita and World War II - five Japanese features lucky to have survived -- dramas made during the war and supervised by Japan's military censors. Here finally is the 'morale building' Tojo propaganda to compare to Hollywood's prolific WW2 output; and The Package - A smart, well-made action-suspense-political intrigue thriller with plenty of star appeal: Gene Hackman's patriotic sergeant is framed for murder in a plot to assassinate important heads of state. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Boyhood There are some new titles coming out that might make it worth a trip to the video store this week. Check out these recent releases: Boyhood [review] - Richard Linklater finally brings his ambitious decade-spanning project to a close and it proves to be stronger achievement than the raw impressiveness of its gimmick; Get On Up [review] - a good retelling of James Brown's life and the amount of bonus material is better than expected; and The Guest [review] - a genre exercise that's as straight and stripped as they come, but it's brimming with enough style, tension, mood, and technical creativity to successfully cover for any lack of originality. Other reviews of note include: Looking: Season 1 [review], Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh [review], and Horns [review]. Be sure to check out our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.

Recent Reviews: Running on Empty, Coherence, and The Missouri Breaks
Running on Empty Some great DVD and Blu-ray reviews have been added to the the DVD Talk Review Database recently including: Running on Empty - this critically acclaimed film features a number of fantastic performances, great characters, and a deceptively simple story that yields complex results; Coherence - a movie a complicated and scientific story line that is brought to life by the use of improv, allowing for the characters to be developed organically while the plot twists around them; and The Missouri Breaks - Arthur Penn's film, famously pairing for the first and last time Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson, is mostly intelligent and understated - though it's also wounded by Brando's hammy performance. Other recent reviews include: Abuse of Weakness, Trip to Italy, and The Public Defender.  Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
