When Columbia Tri-Star first launched Superbit the concept was simple - get rid of special features to make room for higher quality video and audio. Now it seems like Columbia Tri-Star is trying to have it's cake and eat it too with the announcement of 2 'Superbit Deluxe' titles Snatch: Superbit Deluxe and The Mask of Zorro: Superbit Deluxe. The 'Superbit Deluxe' releases feather 2 DVDs, 1 with the 'Superbit' version of the movie and a 2nd Disc will all the special features found on the previously released SE (minus the audio commentaries). We're all for the best picture and sound posable, but with the announcement of Panic Room debuting as a Superbit first and the addition of 'Superbit Deluxe' line, it's getting awfully confusing which version of Columbia Tri-Star titles people should buy.
It's no secret that tons of films go undistributed each year. But who would expect films from the directors of Bad Lieutenant and Living in Oblivion to vanish without a trace? This week Cinema Gotham takes a look at the latest from two noted New York filmmakers: Abel Ferrara's
'R-Xmas, which features a fierce, moving performance by The
Sopranos' Drea de Matteo (left), and Tom
DiCillo's Double Whammy, which stars Denis Leary, Elizabeth Hurley and Steve Buscemi. With
both films hidden from the public eye for now, getting the word out to film fans is critical.
