CineSchlock-O-Rama: 28 Days Later
Trainspotter Danny Boyle unleashes a Romero-esque apocalypse upon jolly ol' England in his zombirific 28 Days Later. The five-star classick Silent Night, Deadly Night no longer eludes CineSchlock-O-Rama's Most Wanted. Crispin Glover's tour de farce turn in Willard is wonderfully weird, while would-be piggybacker Rodentz is just plain mousy. R. Lee Ermey reigns supreme over military minutia with Mail Call: Best of Season One. Crank Yanker Jim Florentine ("YAY!!!") mines new depths in toilet teehees in Meet the Creeps Vol. 1. Plus, recent giveaway winners, responses to reader emails and 'Gator Bait joins the Most Wanted list.

The Aisle View: Alien - The Director's Cut
In this week's Aisle View, critic Megan Denny cheers the director's cut of Alien with detailed descriptions of the new footage and why Alien is still a relevant film in the CG world of 2003. Also new this week: Nicole Kidman and Meg Ryan prove that brown hair does not a sharp character make in two arthouse films: The Human Stain and In the Cut. Docurama - William Gibson DVD
Docurama has taken the wraps off their next wave of excellent documentaries all arriving on November 25th including the fascinating documentary William Gibson - No Maps for These Documentaries - a road trip with the cyber punk founding author (whose recent book Pattern Recognition is simply amazing). No maps takes a look at North America on the edge of a new millennium from Gibson's unique perspective. The Political Documentary See How They Run - which follows the battle between political heavyweight Willie Brown and the openly gay write-in candidate Tom Ammiano and their David v. Goliath battle. A look at the true stores behind the famed Appalachian photographer Shelby Lee Adams The True Meaning of Pictures - a hit at this year's Sundance film fest, and Pandemic: Facing Aids, the five part mini series by Rory Kennedy takes a look at the spread of AIDS across the world, it's an unflinching documentary that takes a real personal look at the global epidemic.

DVD Savant: The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, The Cars that Ate Paris & The Plumber
This week the DVD Savant takes a look at 2 early Peter Weir films from Home Vision Entertainment - The Cars that Ate Paris & The Plumber, they're together on one disc, and the television movie The Plumber is considered an extra, but it's the classic keeper of the two. From Sofa Entertainmen The Four Complete Historic Ed Sullivan Shows Featuring The Beatles - a two disc set containing the full four shows where the Beatles appeared on network TV. It's a terrific historical artifact, with the context of other performers and Tea commercials showing us how special and transcendent the Beatles really were. Finalyy from Image comes in Laugh with Max Linder, featuring the 1921 comedy Seven Years' Bad Luck. The tuxedoe'd Linder makes a unique silent clown, comparing well with our American breed of Chaplin and Harold Lloyd. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Hidden Gems - Films Not To Overlook
Here are this week's 'Hidden Gems' - worthy of seeking out: Nero Wolfe - The Complete First Season - expertly crafted, masterfully acted, and unlike much of anything else on television , Marooned In Iraq - a fascinating independent film from Wellspring , L'Auberge Espagnole - a likable, sweet film that's entertaining and involving, The Office - The Complete First Series - a truly fresh, biting, creative show unlike like any other comedy series we've seen, Naqoyqatsi the swan song for the ground breaking trilogy which includes Koyaanisqatsi and Powaqqatsi , and History of Soccer - The Beautiful Game - outstanding in terms of the material that it pulls together and a must for Soccer fans.

Showtime TV comes to DVD
While being relatively slow on releasing their shows on DVD (aside from Queer as Folk) Showtime has come out of the closet with a number of DVD announcements for 2004 Including: Out of Order on 1/13 - unfortunately the release is ONLY the pilot and NOT the entire series, a bad move for a good show, Family Business on 1/6 - a great reality series based around adult director 'Seymore Butts' that gives you a true insiders look at the adult film industry, Jeremiah: Season 1 on 1/20 (released by MGM who produces the show) -a well done and popular post-apocalyptic Showtime series, but couldn't they have gotten Season 1 DVD out BEFORE Season 2 debuted on TV?! And last, but certainly not least, the ever popular Queer as Folk - Season 3 on 2/24.

DVD Talk Interview with Guillermo del Toro
Guillermo del Toro has been creating impressively creepy horror films for 10 years, since his remarkable debut, Cronos, a beautiful and award-winning treatise on vampirism and immortality. On the occasion of Lions Gate's release of the new 10th Anniversary Special Edition of Cronos, DVD Talk Interviewer Jason Bovberg had the opportunity to sit down with the director and talk about the new DVD, as well as his thoughts about the horror genre, his obsession with bugs, the scoop on The Devil's Backbone DVD re-release, and his take on the home-theater experience of his films. Read Jason's complete interview with Guillermo del Toro.

DVDs Just Announced
Here's a quick wrap up of some of the DVD titles just announced by studios: From MGM comes Jeepers Creepers 2 on 12/23 which lacks the punch of the first but is still a guilty pleasure, Uptown Girls on 12/30 with the extremely likeable Brittany Murphy. From Buena Vista comes Open Range on 1/20, while it may not be 'Western-World' it does continue the case that perhaps Costner is better suited to act than direct. Speaking of actor/directors Denzel Washington's Out Of Time is due on 1/6. Fans of TV on DVD have Angel Season 3 on 2/10 to look forward to as well as Cheers Season 2 on 1/6, Fraiser Season 2 on 1/6 and In Living Color on 2/3 finally fans of The Lion King should keep their fingers crossed that the direct to DVD The Lion King 1 1/2 on 2/10 is better than the standard Disney Direct to DVD fair. See All the Up Coming DVDs listed here.
