The Aisle View: Master and Commander
This week The Aisle View takes a look at Russell Crowe's latest big screen adventure Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. With Peter Weir at the helm and fingers crossed at the studio(s) for an Oscar nod (any nod will do fine) there are extremely high expectations for this high seas adventure. Find out if Master and Commander lives up to the hype or is just another soggy action flick. Also this week is the fifth film about rapper TuPac Shakur entitled appropriately TuPac Resurrection and a charming British film Love Actually which is actually quite nice. This week the DVD Savant takes a look at the highly anticipated release from Paramount of Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. Savant also takes a look at Image's release for The Dick Van Dyke Show, Seasons One and Two - an example of what Smart and Funny was like in '62, Warner Bros. release of High Sierra a classic that made Humphrey Bogart a mainstream star, Criterion's Le Cercle rouge. a stylized and ritualized continental criminal epic that crime fans will love and Columbia TriStar's The World of Apu, the honored Indian masterpiece which is an excellent movie on a less than excellent DVD. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
