Schlockcast: The Fly / The Fly II

CineSchlockers fussed. Even fumed. Now, there's real reason to buzz. After five long years, Fox finally revisits their double-feature release of The Fly with a double-disc reissue that delves deep into the plasma pool of bonus features. In this schlockcast, yours truly nearly snaps an arm rifling through oodles of extras -- including the infamous monkey-cat scene!!!

However, is the nearly THREE HOUR Fear of the Flesh documentary too much of a good thing? Maybe. But it's the only time you'll ever see an antenna'd David Cronenberg flitting around set in paste-on wings!

As if the gore gods weren't generous enough, The Fly II also gets its double-disc due, which is sweet vindication for we CineSchlockers who've long salivated over Chris Walas' underappreciated and gloriously grue-slathered sequel. Listen using the handy Online DVD Talk Radio Player or download the complete schlockcast (27 mins, 16 mb).

Schlockcast: Skinned Deep

In Skinned Deep, first-time director Gabe Bartalos crafts a surrealist slasher that's both unique and deceptively familiar. In this schlockcast, yours truly futilely fumbles to adequately describe Gabe's bizarro tale -- one populated by a plate-flinging midget, a lovelorn mutant, a geriatric biker gang and a bunch of other freakified stuff CineSchlockers won't believe. It's destine to take a big ol' bear-trap bite out of the year's Best of Schlock!

Think Dracula 3000 was a Dracula 2000 sequel? Silly, blood bunny. The neck-noshing franchise actually ends (or does it?) with the anemic return of Jason Scott Lee's holy hiney kicker in Dracula III: Legacy.

Lee Bennett Sobel recruits familiar faces -- and bods -- for his jiggle 'n' giggle opuses Hotties and Hotties 2: The Hot, The Bad and The Ugly. (Gotham-area CineSchlockers are encouraged to attend their double-feature premiere at 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at The Pioneer Theater.)

Plus, hear an exclusive clip from Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way -- a six-disc audio version of the New York Times best-seller by everyone's favorite genre superstar turned author. Listen using the handy Online DVD Talk Radio Player or download the complete schlockcast (22 mins, 13 mb).

T-Minus 56 days, 8 hours

Figures a Blood Feast reunion would bust out the year I decide to forgo my Halloween geek trek to the Chiller Theatre Expo!

Sigh.

Cinema's first splatterer, Mal Arnold, and would-be splatteree, Connie Mason, are scheduled to sign in New Jersey alongside schlockmeisters Herschell Gordon Lewis and David F. Friedman!

Also among the 90+ folks I won't be glad-handing:

- May's Angela Bettis and Lucky McKee
- Land of the Dead's Eugene "Big Daddy" Clark
- Batman's Adam West
- Hellraiser's Ashley Laurence
- Carrie's William Katt
- The A-Team's Dwight Schultz
- Black Ceasar's Fred "The Hammer" Williamson
- Hardbodies' Courtney Gains
- I Dream of Jeannie's Barbara Eden, Larry Hagman and Bill Daily

Past Chiller coverage: 2001, 2002 and 2003
