Renny Harlin's Bio:
Renny Harlin has established himself as one of Hollywood's most
renowned filmmakers, both as a director and a producer with extraordinary vision
whose work encompasses drama, comedy, action and suspense in both film and
television.
Harlin has just completed production on Deep Blue Sea,
which he directed for Warner Bros. This film is about a group of scientists who,
as a by-product of their study to cure degenerative brain disease, breed faster,
smarter, more vicious sharks. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Thomas Jane,
Saffron Burrows, L.L. Cool J, and Michael Rapaport, and was released on July
28th.
Most recently Harlin produced Blast From the Past starring
Alicia Silverstone, Brendan Fraser, Sissy Spacek and Christopher Walken for New
Line Cinema. The film follows the travails of Adam Webber (Fraser), who was
raised his entire life in a bomb shelter. When he emerges after 30 years he
discovers a world that is completely unfamiliar to him.
In 1991 he made
his debut as a producer with the critically acclaimed Rambling Rose,
starring Robert Duval, Lukas Haas, Laura Dern and Diane Ladd. The film earned
Oscar nominations for Best Actress (Dern) and Best Supporting Actress (Ladd).
Harlin also produced Speechless for MGM in 1994. The romantic comedy
starred Geena Davis, Michael Keaton and Christopher Reeve.
His initial
success came with Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master which, at
the time of its release in 1993, was the highest grossing independent film ever
made. Harlin produced and directed the blockbuster Cliffhanger starring
Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow and Janine Turner. The film solidified Harlin
at the top of the competitive list of action directors. Prior to
Cliffhanger, Harlin directed the box office smash Die Hard 2: Die
Harder. In 1995, Harlin directed and produced Cutthroat Island which
starred Geena Davis and Matthew Modine. Harlin also produced and directed the
critically acclaimed The Long Kiss Goodnight for New Line
Cinema.
Harlin resides in Los Angeles.
