Naxos Musical Journey: Vivaldi
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
The Movie:
Another in the very enjoyable Naxos Musical Journey series, this time, we are treated to music from Vivaldi. The series offers video footage of beautiful landscapes paired with the classical music; this particular one has footage of Austria, Germany and Scotland.
The DVD
VIDEO: I was very pleased with the video quality for this edition of the Musical Journey series. There were a couple of previous entries that tended to have some problems with the video quality, whether they looked either too soft or had problems such as shimmering and pixelation. Although this presentation isn't quite perfect, as the full frame picture does have a tiny bit of shimmer and pixelation, overall it seems more smooth and natural. Sharpness and detail are pleasant, and the picture quality is actually pretty remarkable at times. Very solid work.
SOUND: The biggest selling point with the series is not only that they offer some of the world's most famous classical music artists, but that their music is available on these DVDs in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1. Although the two versions soun extremely similar, it's always nice to have the choice available. The audio quality is excellent, capturing every note of the music clearly and cleanly, and bringing it around the viewer as the surrounds also carry the music appropriately.
MENUS:: The main menu is actually animated with a clip playing and music in the background.
EXTRAS:: Trailers for other DVD International titles - The Naxos Musical Journey series; Mars - The Red Planet; Video Essentials; Earthlight; Aquaria; Tender Loving Care; More Tales Of The City.
Final Thoughts: Available for less than $19.99 at most stores, "Vivaldi" is recommended. The music is beautiful as well as the scenery chosen to accompany it. Perfect for relaxing after a long day.
