The Movie:

The always excellent Ray Charles performs here in a benefit concert that was originally broadcast on television in Florida. As always, he's a spirited performer who can really belt out a number, or go subtly through a softer song. Although a very basic DVD release, fans will likely be very entertained by Charles going through many of his classics.

Songs:
1. I Got A Woman
2. A Song For You
3. It Hurts To Be In Love
4. Georgia On My Mind
5. The Good Life
6. Your Cheatin' Heart
7. They Can't Take That Away From Me
8. It Had To Be You (With Diane Schuur)
9. You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (With Diane Schuur)
10. Till There Was You
11. Say No More
12. Blues For Big Scotia
13. If You Go Away
14. All I Ever Need I You
15. Love In Three Quarter Time
16. America, The Beautiful

The DVD

VIDEO: The concert is presented in its original full-frame aspect ratio, as it was originally broadcast on television. Although the majority of the presentation looks very good, with solid sharpness and detail, there are some minor problems that occasionally get in the way of the image quality looking as good as it could. Although I didn't notice anything in the way of pixelation, some shimmering was occasionally visible and slightly irritating.

Looking past that mild problem, the rest of the concert looked good. Colors, such as the stage lighting and clothing, appeared bold and crisp, with no visible problems. Overall, this is likely somewhat better than the concert looked when it was originally broadcast on television.

SOUND: The sound for the show is presented in stereo, which is somewhat of a dissapointment as Image Entertainment usually offers their music titles in either Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1. Although with Ray Charles' often somewhat quiet music it may not have may a great deal of difference, the music and concert atmosphere would have been spread out nicely around the room.

As this is a television presentation though, this show was possibly never intended for anything other than broadcast. At least audio quality remains enjoyable, though. The stereo soundtrack sounds full and suprisingly clean, capturing every note of the music with very good clarity and Charles' wonderful voice comes through well, also. For stereo, it's pretty good, but a full 5.1 presentation would have been appreciated to open up the sound and envelop the viewer in the music.

MENUS:: Basic menus are offered and since there's no extras and not many options, the main and song selection menus are the only ones offered.

EXTRAS: There are no extra features.

Final Thoughts: Although the DVD offers the most basic features, the performance still shines through and fans will enjoy.
