Features:DVD (Region 1) Distributor: Warner Bros. Run Time: 121 minutes Aspect Ratios: 2.35:1 (Widescreen) 1.33:1 (Full Frame) Audio: English (Dolby Digital 2.0) Subtitles: English, Spanish, French

Synopsis: Detroit, MI. Everyday-guy Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) loves Elvis, Sonny Chiba martial arts flicks and a bubbly, but earnest call girl named Alabama (Patricia Arquette)--whom he met at a Sonny Chiba triple movie show. They marry, and the chivalrous Clarence confronts her slimy pimp Drexl (excellently played by Gary "Count Dracula" Oldman). Goodbye Drexl, as Clarence blows him away. He grabs a suitcase that should've had Alabama's belongings in it, but is instead carrying about $500K worth of smack (that's cocaine, for you non-movie lingo folks). As the Steve Miller song goes, it's time to take the money and run! The couple, heading to California, stop off to visit dear old Dad (Dennis Hopper, cool as usual). They leave, and then the Mob shows up, looking for their drugs (apparently, they had a deal with Drexl). Dad is beaten andinterrogated by the dastardly Vincent Coccotti (the awesomely-reptilian Christopher Walken). Dad gives squat away and takes some bullets for his kid. Meanwhile, Clarence and Alabama end up in Los Angeles, where they hook up with amiable best friend Dick (Michael Rapaport)--an actor, and his stoned-out roommate Floyd (A-list actor Brad Pitt in a delicious throw-away role). Dick has an acting class buddy, Elliot (Bronson Pinchot of TV's "Perfect Strangers") who is the brown-nosing assistant of big movie producer Lee Donowitz (Saul Rubinek)--who'll buy the smack off of the Worleys for the nice, tidy sum of $200K. The principals meet at a swanky hotel to exchange goods. Unfortunately, the cops are there, too; led by wacky Chris Penn ("Reservoir Dogs") and Tom Sizemore ("Saving Private Ryan"). Naturally, the mob shows up at the same time and all hell breaks loose! It becomes a bloodbath. In the end, Clarence, Alabama and Dick survive. The Worleys are set for life, now living in Mexico.

The Lowdown: "True Romance" was one of the most underrated films of 1993. However, it has become a cult classic thanks to cable, video and now DVD. Directed with style by Tony Scott ("Top Gun"/"Beverly hills Cop II), "TR" is slick, well-shot and features excellent dialogue/scripting by Quentin Tarantino ("Pulp Fiction"). Personally-speaking, I can't stand the dude. But I give credit where credit's due. This is one fantastically-written flick.

The DVD: Speaking of fantastic, "TR" looks awesome! The imaging is sharp, clear and pristine. My only downside here lies not in the DVD, but the actual film itself, because I'm not too crazy about the film stock used to make the movie. But that isn't important right now (maybe later...). Anyway, I'm verrrrry pleased. Sound quality features excellent Surround sound that brings out the best in the dialogue and music score/soundtrack. All in all, buy this DVD, or Christopher Walken will have to pay a visit to your homestead!!
