The Movie

The National Lampoon franchise used to mean something, comedy. The franchise was responsible for great movies like National Lampoon's Animal House and National Lampoon's Vacation. However, over the few years, the quality has plummeted with horrendous films that only use National Lampoon as a brand name.

Their latest endeavor is National Lampoon's Spring Break. It is not funny and actually is not much of a movie. "Spring Break" is a seventy minute production that plays out like a non-censored spring break edition of E!: Entertainment Television's Wild On! with Brooke Bruke. The only difference is that Nikki Ziering hosts the shindig and shows off her boobies. There are also other random drunk girls who take off their tops. I suppose it is also a lot like Girls Gone Wild.

The host Nikki is a blonde bombshell with a body. It should be no surprise that she is a former Playboy Playmate. She was also once married to actor Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210). Besides her career as a Playmate and former marriage with Ziering, Nikki is probably best known for her role as Officer Krystal in American Wedding (she along with the French maid played by Amanda Swisten were the center of attention for the naughty bachelor party scene).

In "Spring Break", Nikki plays hosts a documentary-like feature that focuses on college coeds and their wild adventures during spring break. The wild party segments cover events held in Las Vegas, Cabo San Lucas, and South Padre Island. Each adventure begins with Nikki wearing scantily clad clothing. Sometimes she reveals a brief glimpse of her boobs and other times she does not, but she always introduces the next so-called "exciting" segment.

There are a lot of risque, yet sexy happenings to see that occur in this feature. They range from segments with a bunch of college kids getting drunk, girls flashing their chests, girls kissing girls, wet t-shirt contests, gambling, night clubs, drunk frat boys screaming, and other wild party scene-like events.

Overall, I was horribly bored with the feature. I have never really cared for productions of this nature. Features with a similar tone/premise I have reviewed include Party @ the Palms: Season 1 and Meth and Red: How to Throw a Party at the Playboy Mansion, neither of which I liked. "Spring Break was far worse with little direction, interest, or entertainment. In the end, this release is not worth your time.

The DVD

Video:
The video is given in 1.33:1 ratio full frame color. The picture quality is decent; it ranges from scene to scene with common problems associated to insufficient lighting. If you have ever seen an episode of Wild On! or a reality show of this caliber, you have an idea of what this looks like.

Audio:
The audio is given in English 2.0 Dolby digital stereo sound. The track is dialogue driven. For the most part, it sounds good, but there are moments when the background noise from the hotel gets overpowering.

Extras:
For extras, there are trailers for National Lampoon's Pledge This and National Lampoon's TV The Movie.

Final Thoughts:
When I first cracked open National Lampoon's Spring Break, I was expecting a horribly written comedy about college coeds partying across the Americas. I did not realize what it was really about it--"Spring Break", hosted by Nikki Ziering, is a feature with footage of college coeds partying in Las Vegas, Cabo San Lucas, and San Padre Island. There is no script, but lots of drunk college kids, random boobie flashes, and other wild and sexy happenings. What it equates to is a dull, lackluster production that is not worth your time.
