Karaoke - Patriotic Songs
Pioneer // Unrated // October 30, 2000
List Price: $19.99 [Buy now and save at Amazon]
In response to the 9-11 attack, Pioneer has released a Karaoke DVD of what it calls patriotic songs. All proceeds from the sale of this DVD go to the Red Cross Fund.
It's really a mixed bag and obviously, Pioneer was trying to fill the disc and keep the costs down. There are several public domain songs included and none of them include the original music or vocals. However, if you've ever been to a bar or seen karaoke you know how these things work. It's 30 minutes of songs put to bad stock footage that really makes no sense. In this case, it's 30 minutes of Baseball, Flags, Soldiers, and Apple Pie. The songs included range from the obvious: Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful; to the almost out of place like Take Me Out to the Ballgame or New York, New York.
I can't complain. The disc serves it purpose, it's made to sing along to. It would be perfect fun and to pull out at a party and embarrass all of your friends with it. There's not much else to the disc, but here goes.
The DVD
The Video: It's stock footage. Some of it looks good and some is almost horrible. No one is going to watch it and examine this anyway, they'll be too busy watching the people singing.
The Audio: The audio is a quick studio mix of the music with and without vocals. Presented in a 2-channel stereo, like the video, it serves it purpose.
The Extras: None to speak of. Overall: Fun for a party or an aspiring singer, it's worth it of you're feeling patriotic and the money goes to a good cause.
