The Movie:
When we think about the adult entertainment industry we usually associate it with everything that goes on in Porn Valley (aka the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles), we seldom realize how vast and wide the business of selling moaning and groaning reaches. You probably wouldn't figure on a thriving sex scene in Montreal (except for all those people who fly there for those crazy bachelor parties) but Webdreams puts a C-light on the whole thang, with this reality show that's sort of a Real Sex meets American Chopper. It's not seven strangers picked to live in a house, for season two of Webdreams it's seven main characters trying to achieve success in the online sex-world.

Violet is a Suicide Girls-esque model who is trying to launch and advertise her own website; Diesel J. is a hunky male model who's trying to expand his business by backing transsexual webcam "girls;" Lance & Alexandra are a porno-couple looking to broaden their market; Angelique is getting her boyfriend comfortable with being watched by cameras in every room for her own website; Vid Vicious is a photographer/director looking to make his mark; and Uncle D, (AKA, "The Canadian Assman") is looking to make his brand worldwide. Originally airing on Showcase (Canada's like-Showtime), this second season has a whole new cast and as much as you may want to resist, you may find yourself watching the all the episodes in one run.

Episode One:
The season kicks off with Vid Vicious getting trying to get five video shoots off the ground and done in time for a client. His MSM crew is having problems getting the girls they need, technicalities like STD tests are holding up the process, and on top of that they had to destroy some tape after an actress got cold feet about her career choice. Diesel is already doing pretty well with his webcam. The black Adonis has adoring fans that login to see him sponge down, but he's decided to expand his business by setting up Solaya (a she-male escort) with a webcam of her own. His girlfriend is a little uneasy about this person but she trusts him, however after the first night doesn't do to well they have to reconsider another approach. Uncle D starts out the season in Florida trying to get booty shots, but when he gets a call-up from John "Buttman" Stagliano he rushes to his reel ready to send. Violet Manson is trying to get her solo website up and running, but her investor is taking a long time picking a web designer, and she's getting frustrated.

Episode Two:
Uncle D is on the hunt for Buttman Stagliano at a convention in Las Vegas. He seems to feel only Stagliano can appreciate his eye for the ass, and only he can help Uncle D bust out. He finds his idol, but gets into an argument with his girlfriend as well, which makes the moment a tad less sweet. Lance and Alexandra Belle have been part of the Vancouver porn scene for several years, and now the married couple wants to produce and own their own material. They hook up with another porno couple and decide to form a production company. Things are looking optimistic for now. Things are also looking up for Angelique, who's BF just moved in and is starting to get used to the cameras. In the meantime Angelique wants to expand her range of expertise and we go on a field trip with her for dominatrix lessons. Vid Vicious & the MSM Crew are trying to make a deal with another outfit, FCF, but their owner had a change of heart.

Episode Three:
Uncle D lets some time elapse and things are back on track with his long distance girlfriend/subject. Kayla flies into Toronto to spend some time with him and take photos for the website he's setting up for her. They're having a great time, except for the fact that Uncle D likes to think of himself a wild man, so he's likely to forget those sweet nothings in the morning. In this episode, Diesel decides to launch yet another she-male's site, only this one is even less feminine. His girlfriend isn't sure about this new direction and it looks like Diesel isn't really that sure about his own sexuality. In this somewhat incestuous business, Violet meets with Vid Vicious who tells her that the investor is not putting real effort into her site. This inspires her to meet with other web-site operators who offer to help out, but Violets investor doesn't feel they have enough experience.

Episode Four:
Lance & Alexander have launched ultimatewife.com with their friends Becky & Janessa, and they decide to hire a big name for their production, so they hire Malezia, a famous Vivid-Girl. Can they afford her? And will she pay off? Vid is looking for different talent to photograph since that big deal didn't go through, so he we meet, Lana, a monster-muscle model that is pretty scary with clothes on, let alone in the nude. In the meantime, those other investors who offered to buy her backer out are still courting Violet. Upon hearing this he puts a rush job on her website and she is very pleased with the results. Back with Diesel and his tranny saga, MJ shows up to help out a shoot, but gets freaked out by the whole penis-plus-breasts thing. Is Diesel paying enough attention to his girlfriend's feelings, or is he getting drawn in by business and hidden desire?

Episode Five:
Diesel's conscience gets the better of him and he decides to pack up and move to Panama with MJ. He'll try to continue running his tranny webcam from there, and goes to Solaya's apartment for a goodbye dinner, and to reassure that things will be ok. The dinner gets a little too romantic, if you know what I mean, and by the morning MJ has enough to be jealous about. The FCF guys are back in business with the MSM Crew, and so they get together a joint casting call; one that looks like will start off as a (no pun intended) bust. The show moves to Las Vegas where Angelique and her man, Celt, are on a working holiday. First they hook up with another couple and shoot a girl-on-girl scene; and later they end up in the Chicken Ranch where she learns all about being a madam. We catch Uncle D in Los Angeles, where he meets with Stagliano. He's telling him that if he wants to step it up to where the "Buttman's" at, then the "Canadian Assman" is going to have to shoot some hardcore. It's advice Uncle D doesn't take too lightly.

Episode Six:
Angelique and Celt are back in Canada, and they're visiting some family and friends. Her friend Sophie is also the photographer that got her into this stuff, so they shoot another set. Celt does a sex scene with Angelique, his first one on screen. Not only are they thinking about doing more intimate scenes together, they're working on taking their relationship to the next level as well. Lance gets a gig shooting an ultimate fighting-porn, and he's thrilled about getting more gigs. Violet is revisited by her x-boyfriend, a guy who still hasn't gotten over her career move. She takes him back in the house, but finds that her sense of freedom is compromised. Vid Vicious and his posse show, once again, how gonzo filmmakers could get shit done.

Episode Seven:
Uncle D is back in Toronto and is thinking about Stagliano's advice. He's also waiting for Kayla's site to start picking up, but the more they get involved the stickier their business situation becomes. Down in Panama, Diesel meets a strip-club owner and gets the brilliant idea to set up cameras and a new website with these dancing girls. Violet and her X become just that once again, as he can't handle her new lifestyle, and she can't handle his pressure. She goes to the BAA Awards in Montreal and turns on the night with some friends. Vid goes to San Francisco to meet up FCF' crew. Thing is, they do a lot of gay porn, and to be a team player Vid agrees to shoot a scene.

Episode Eight:
Angelique and Celt find out some very important news, which could affect her sexuality and their finances. As of now, they're thrilled that she's pregnant, and they decide it's time to move to New York. Lance pisses off new business partner, Jake, when he fails to show up to a shoot on time. MSM has Vid working overtime, editing and editing. He decides to send co-worker, Franca, out to shoot models that he's wanted to photograph for a long time. He's happy for her, but a little sad he's stuck inside editing. Uncle D gets into a fight with Kayla and now she's giving him the cold shoulder. He decides to show up at her door, and she decides to file a restraining order!

Episode Nine:
Uncle D decides that shooting booties is the only thing that's going to help him get over the whole Kayla thing, so he heads to Europe. Diesel is having second and third thoughts about this new strip-club/webcam-thing. He feels bad about exploiting the dancers and in the end MJ supports his decision to cancel the deal. Violet is at the Internext Conference in Miami, where she's having a little friction with her latest boss who doesn't want her promoting her own site during appearances.

Episode Ten:
Violet's at the convention and in the perfect position to pitch, pitch, pitch, but her website isn't even online. Distraught, she tries to call Jim to find out what's going on, only he's unreachable. Jake continues to have doubts about Lance and his lack of professionalism. The MSM crew are also in Miami to hype their new website flashybabes.com, only Vid is now playing the part of pitchman instead of big-director; this inevitably gets to him. Angelique takes up an invitation to do a shoot while pregnant. She decides it's a good opportunity to change her image for a while, although she's nervous that her hardcore fans won't find her sexy.

Episode Eleven:
Angelique launches her website in France, and does some radio promotion back in Canada. When she gets back to NYC, Celt may pop the question. Lance and Jake end their working relationship, which causes the former to soul search. Lance decides that his heart is in performing and flies to L.A. to get in on some shoots. Violet and Vid Vicious meet to talk about he problems with Jim, but they end up shooting a calendar for her. It seems to help them both, and afterwards she gets an offer from Mark Prince to set up her whole business.

Episode Twelve:
Violet tells Jim that he's lost the gig, and she's getting on track to where she finally wants to be. Vid decides that its time to take his chances in L.A. as well, and asks his boss if he can go there in the interest of bringing in more work. Uncle D gets his fifteen minutes of fame on a TV show. SPOILER: Celt pops the question to Angelique, and they give birth to a baby girl.

The DVD
Video: Webdreams Season 2 was shot and originally broadcasted in HD, and the quality of the image more than makes up for any lack of budget. Maybe they don't have funky graphics and animated effects, but we don't really need all that here. We've got the locations, and we get the feeling that we're going behind the scenes to this fascinating world. They don't get too graphic, but titillating is simple with such a sharp image.

Sound: Webdreams: Season 2 sounds terrific in two-channel, Dolby Digital. The soundtrack music moves the plot along without and never sounds too canned. Every technical aspect of this series seems on point.
Extras: Our screener didn't have any extras. Boohoo.

Final Thoughts:
Webdreams Season 2: is totally engrossing. You never get the feeling that it's the best show that could be done on the subject, but it feels like the Canadian production had less pressure to be annoyingly contrived; and with that, we feel much more connected to the cast. Violet it unique and ambitious, and we're rooting for her the whole time. Vid helps to humanize the face of a pornographer; he comes across as an honest artist trying to catch a break. If any character brings on irritation, it would be Uncle D (with his surfer-dude machismo and bandana-action), but even he grows on you. Angelique also gives you a view of the adult actress that can be more sophisticated than the stereotypical view of the average "screen-slut." The whole marriage thing makes this series totally "girl-friendly." Lance & Alexander are the least interesting couple in the series, although Lance's arc shouldn't be underestimated. And lastly Diesel looks like he's got the most to figure out personally and professionally; and he's also the one who entertains the notion of morality the most.

As much as I enjoyed watching the series, with no extras or commentary I can't imagine there'd be an urge to check it out further. The good thing is, you don't need to know anything about the first season, because these are all new dreamers, but I'd be more likely to rent season three than go back and catch up with series one.
