The Movie: "Double Team" chronicles the adventures of top CIA operative Jack Quinn (Jean-Claude Van Damme), who's ready for retirement and a family (his wife's expecting their first child). However, duty calls. Jack must kill international terrorist Stavros (Mickey Rourke, on steroids). Easier said than done, so Jack assembles a hit squad and calls on flamboyant arms dealer Yaz (NBA's bad boy Dennis Rodman) to get some heavy-duty artillery. The hit goes awry, as Stavros escapes--but his little boy is killed. Jack almost suffers the same fate at Stavros' hands, but survives. He wakes up from a coma, months later, only to find himself a prisoner in the island fortress called "The Colony"--a place where the world's "dead' secret agents live out their days. Jack discovers that Stavros has kidnapped his pregnant wife, so the wily agent man manages to escape the Colony and track down Yaz for help. The two men head over to Rome, where they get help from Yaz's buddies--a bunch of cyber-monks! Fists, feet and bullets fly as Jack and Yaz take on Stavros and his lackeys. The climax occurs in the Roman Coliseum, where Jack and Stavros battles like gladiators. In the end, Jack is victorious, and he and his family are reunited.

The Picture: Once again, Columbia/ TriStar Home Video has presented a DVD picture worth a thousand words. "Double Team" is extremely sharp and detailed in imaging. Bravo, folks, bravo.

The Sound: "Team" also excels in this category. The sound is so crystal-clear that I felt every punch, kick, shootout and explosion. Now that's entertainment!

The Extras: Okay, here is where I feel that CTHV is lacking. How about putting a nice featurette on the DVD? Cinemax had a nice making-of "Double Team" featurette on the air, so why can't CTHV license it for DVD? Other studios are now utilizing these cable- made documentaries for DVDs. Get with the program folks!

Conclusion: All in all, "Double Team" is definitely one for the library (aside from my gripes in the "Extras" sections). Van Damme still kicks ass and so does Rodman. Get this DVD or you'll get a kick in the head!

Smile.
