Ultimate Knockouts Volume 6!!!

Featuring such fights as: Chuck Liddell Vs Renato "Babalu" Sobral 2, Keith Jardine Vs. Forrest Griffin, Matt Serra Vs. Georges St. Pierre, Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic Vs. Gabriel Gonzoga, Brandon Vera Vs. Frank Mir, Matt Hughes Vs Georges St. Pierre 2, Quentin Jackson Vs. Chuck Liddell 2, and Anderson Silva Vs Rich Franklin 1!!!

35 fights on 1 DVD!!!

65 mins of action!!!

Whoa, wait a minute...

35 fights in 65 mins?

Yep, thats right. That means, you basically get about 30 seconds worth of setup before the knockout, a couple of replays, then onto the next fight. Oh, and you get the beefy head of commentator Mike Goldberg chiming in with a brief intro, bumpers, and a wrap up.

Its a total hackjob that is missing more than rounds. Even fights that are brief one rounders are castrated. Basically, if a fight lasted longer than 30 seconds, they trim out the start of the fight. I'm all for highlight reels and cutting around a slow 1st or 2nd round from a fight that didn't end until the 3rd, 4th, or 5th but it is absolutely silly to snip out 30 seconds or a single minute or two from a one round fight like Patrick Cote Vs Kendall Grove, Brandon Vera Vs Frank Mir, and Joe Lauzon Vs Jens Pulver, to name a few that are on this compilation.

The DVD: First Look Studios.

Picture: The compilation is presented in basic fullscreen. All of the UFC events now, including some fights that are on this disc, are broadcast in widescreen. Because of the mix (and perhaps because this comp was originally made for Spike TV?) it was formatted for basic presentation.

Sound: The disc has one simple 2.0 Stereo track. Not much to speak of. A workmanlike track that doesn't offer much in terms of dynamics but is always clear and free from any glaring errors.

Extras: This DVD has nothin'.

Conclusion: I don't have a whole lot to say and neither does this DVD. Highlights are fine but they trim the scraps so much this compilation becomes a blur. The actual context of competition and how the KO was setup is often lost making for a blunt presentation purely for the ADD afflicted crowd. For me, its not enough to see the great tail end finish of Franklin-Silva 1, I want all the minutes beforehand that truly show you how the decimation came to be.

The disc doesn't offer any extra incentive for a purchase. You can get most of the full fights on the actual event discs or other compilations and the ones you cannot find anywhere else are needlessly truncated anyway. If you are a true fight fan, don't be a sucker. Skip it.
