Behavioral Problems

Review:
Ron White was one of the members of the successful Blue Collar Comedy Tour, where he was joined by comics Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall. The group has seemingly disbanded in order to try and further their careers on their own, with some getting their own show and others still finding success because the world is a really bizarre place. After watching White's latest comedy special, "Behavioral Problems", one of the few things I can come up with is that at least it wasn't Larry the Cable Guy.
All kidding aside, while White will never be on my list of favorite comics, his material isn't without some decent laughs. The comic's cigar-and-whiskey style works for his brand of lowbrow humor, which is delivered in his rambling, unapologetic style. Some of the bits are too crude for crude's sake (such as the opening bit, which just isn't funny in the slightest because it's way too forced), but these misses don't take away from the performance too much.
Some of the funnier bits of the show include Ron's discussion of Scotchguard ("Do you have Vodkaguard?"), a little error that gets turned into a whole bit (the comedian accidentally says he went on a "UFO Tour" instead of the USO tour), drinking (his uncle tells him he'll never find the answers to life in the bottle, which is why he tells his uncle he's buying another bottle) and how a Ritz Carlton didn't plan as well for the mornings as some of the Motel 6's he's visited.
Overall, I didn't think this was a bad show and some stretches of it - especially the middle of the show - actually was mildly funny. However, the last quarter of the performance is iffy and there's a few jokes that are crass without anything to it - just a bathroom humor one-liner (although some of the audience seems to be rolling in the floor during these jokes.) Overall, I still think Bill Engvall's the funniest of the Blue Collar comics, but White's performance is better than I'd expected.
This is the extended version of the performance, with an extra 40 minutes beyond what was included in the Comedy Central performance.
The DVD
VIDEO: "Behavioral Problems" is presented by Paramount in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. Sharpness and detail seemed perfectly fine - at least for the most part - as the picture often appeared crisp. A couple of slight traces of pixelation were spotted, but the picture was otherwise clean. Colors remained bright, vivid and clean, with no smearing.
SOUND: The show is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1. The surrounds do offer up some mild surround use for crowd ambience, but otherwise remain - as one might expect from a stand-up show - silent. Audio quality was fine, with crisp dialogue.
EXTRAS: 4 deleted bits - there's a couple of minor laughs, but nothing that deserved to be included.
Final Thoughts: Although I thought some of the jokes right early on and towards the end flopped, I found the middle of White's performance in "Behavioral Problems" to be pretty funny at times. The DVD offers fine audio/video quality, as well as a few extra bits. Recommended for fans.
