Moonshine Movies have put out another excellent release of electronica music and videos from England DJ/VJs. I've found that most people will listen to the slower styles of electronic music without complaint and even find they like it occasionally. If you're into electronica, drum-n-bass, trip hop, acid jazz, dance or whatever you want to call it, then this is another disc to add to your collection.

Moonshine has put together another 94-minute mix of music and video that is more accompaniment that feature. Artists on this disc include: Spiral3, Visual Cortex, Mark Summers, Addictive TV, Geraint Hughes, Graham Daniels, and Nick Clark. I like the selection on this disc better and would buy it for Track 3 (Bleeps) alone. There's more of a grove and move feeling to these, where the first disc was more trance and relax.

Composed of 7 songs, mixed with all types of video and stock footage, Transambient 2 will surely please. All types of images abound in the footage. Computer graphics, flowers, microorganisms, explosions, and people are just a few of the scenes you'll find here. Rather than being played statically along with the music, the VJs have cut, looped and reversed the video to move with the beat. It's an amazing amount of work that really pays off when watching closely.

But, this disc would be perfect without even watching it. The music selection is strong, varied and upbeat. Perfect for working or playing video games to. The visuals add to the mix, but aren't even necessary and I usually just put the disc in and listen while I working on something.

Video: This is a mixed bag, mostly leaning to the low end. All the video is 4:3 and looks to have come from various bad sources. Everything from stock footage to low grade VHS footage looks to be included. Since it's not integral to the story (since there isn't one) is doesn't make a difference. Much like art, the texture and grain of the video add interest to it and it complements the music perfectly.

Audio: This is where the disc really shines. The music is mastered perfectly with a great digital stereo mix. There is little complaint, except that a 5.1 mix would have been nice. The audio sounds full and enveloping, perfect for this disc.

Extras: There are no extras on this disc.

Overall: Definitely better than the first Transambient, which was a great release, this is a perfect collection of songs. Seven tracks may seem like too few, but most are over 10-minutes in length and never seem repetitive. It's definitely worth a purchase for fans of the genre that need visuals to go with their music. It would work well for any party or get together. If you want just the music, that would be great as well.
