Illuminata
Audio: The film is presented in Dolby 2.0 Surround that more than adequately delivers the necessary oomph needed to get this one over! The gem of the audio however is the commentary by John & Amadeo Turturro. It's amazing how much Amadeo knows about the film business! He may only be a child in stature but he's an incredibly well aware & versed young man. While his dad comments on the film's secrets & behind the scenes issues, Amadeo chimes in with location info, & his spin on the way things went from scene to scene. There is a fair degree of nudity & sexual innuendo & those issues are handling quite nicely in the commentary (given the inappropriateness of the materials for one so young). Nicely done, great commentary.
Video: The feature is presented in a beautifully matted widescreen version. The colors are so vibrant & rich that they at times look almost too real! John touches on them in the commentary. The colors give the film something of a moving "portrait" kind of feel. Quite stunning actually.
Extras: There are five deleted scenes, and a trailer for the film. Of special note are the menus. They are "peopled" if you will not only with scenes from the film but also by these wonderful puppets. The puppets are used in the actual opening credits of the film but, sadly nowhere else in the film. The puppeteer imparts an almost lifelike quality to them that really is something to behold.
Overall: Illuminata is a really good film. The repartee' is funny & fast with enough sight gags to knock you over! The entire cast is just excellent. Christopher Walken is too funny as is Donal McCann! It's not something to be described in as much as it's something to be experienced. Illuminata is the best-kept secret since Twin Falls Idaho! Definitely recommended.
