Keeping Up with the Kardashians: The Complete Third Season

Review:
Kim Kardashian, for those unaware, has ridden a friendship with Paris Hilton to stardom. Once she achieved her "celebrity" status, she has managed to keep herself there thanks to her famous rear (and if you forgot about that, the cover of the first season DVD, which has Kardashian sticking out her behind - is there as a reminder.)
"Keeping Up With the Kardashians" is a reality series on E! that focuses Kim and her family - siblings Robert, Kendall, Kylie, Kourtney, Khloe and parents Kris and Bruce. Kris was formerly married to the late Robert Kardashian, famed defense attorney. Bruce, on the other hand, is widely known for his Olympic success. Now, he walks around the house in the series like some sort of roommate, frowns at the antics of the other members of the family and occasionally announces that he is going out to fly his remote-control plane. In Season 2's "Kardashian Family War", one of the funniest scenes of the season has Bruce flying his plane through the house as he walks into a serious discussion between Kris and Khloe. He contributes his opinion, then flies his plane out of the room and elsewhere into the house.
The series follows the misadventures of Kim and her family, as well as...well, it's mainly about Kim's career, with the family as supporting players. A fairly large part of the series is the business side of things between manager ("momager"? Oh wait, Dina Lohan apparently started that term - and while we're on the subject, thanks E! for canceling "Living Lohan") Kris and Kim, with some subplots about the other kids thrown in to give them some on-screen time.
The series also gives some screen time to brother Rob's relationship with Adrianne Bailon (of "Cheetah Girls" fame.) One of the odder aspects of the series, cameras have watched as Rob got a giant tattoo of Bailon's name on his side, fought with her about being too messy in the third season and then was seen in the fourth season trying to call her countless times (to the point where his sisters have to have an intervention) to try to take him back after it's revealed he cheated on her.
Rob also tries desperately to impress her family (despite his family) in the third season's "Meet the Kardashians", an episode where Adrianne's well-mannered, conservative family seems quietly upset by the antics of Rob's family - especially Khloe's bleep-filed line of questioning as the two families sit around - during a camping trip.
The season also sees the further progression (downwards) of the relationship between Kourtney and boyfriend Scott, who continues to out-douche Spencer Pratt of "The Hills". While Kourtney continues to have second thoughts this season - especially after hearing another girl when she calls him in NYC - the two continue onward, and become a bigger part of the series as their relationship grows more tense in future seasons. Khloe and Kim focus on relationships and careers, as the former poses for PETA and the latter performs with the Pussycat Dolls.
The three main sisters - Kourtney, Kim and Khloe - eventually tend to come together to support each other, but there are moments between the three are impressively catty and bratty. Take the commentary on this set, for instance, where the three spend a great deal of time talking about what they look like.
The show is - somehow - on its 5th season. The third season is more of the same, and fans will likely find more than enough to enjoy, while those who aren't likely aren't going to have their minds changed by the latest round of episodes.

VIDEO: "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" is presented by Lionsgate in 1.33:1 full-frame. The picture quality is just fine, as the full-frame image remained crisp and - at least throughout much of the series - clean. Colors look bright and well-saturated.
SOUND: Crisp, clear Dolby 2.0 audio.
EXTRAS: Kim, Khloe and Kourtney offer brief commentaries for all of the episodes on the second disc. Their comments run just under an hour in total and largely revolve around how the three look on-camera. There's some funny one-liners here-and-there, but most of it is on the dull side.
Final Thoughts: The third season of "Keeping Up" is more of the same - fans will likely be pleased. The DVD set boasts enjoyable audio/video quality, as well as brief commentaries.
