The Movie:

One in a continuing series of tie-ins that allow MTV to extend the reach of their "Real World" series, "Back To New York" is another highlight show that manages to focus on the some of the stranger characters to grace MTV's reality show. For those who haven't been following, this New York effort is an anniversary of sorts, a revisit to the city ten years after the original season.

"Real World You Never Saw: Back To NYC" follows the same structure as all of the "You Never Saw" efforts before it, providing some wacky behind-the-scenes footage that audiences haven't seen on-air. While previous efforts have centered around drunken bloopers that didn't make it on, this effort centers around "The Miz", the pro-wrestler alter-ego of one of the cast. While this would be amusing if done as a joke, the character seems over-the-top and almost creepy.

Aside from that bit of strangeness, there's a few other good moments - bleached-blonde Rachel goes into a local salon and departs with what looks to be a mullet. Of course, there's also the usual - people flirting and smacking face-first into a camera.

The DVD

VIDEO: 1.33:1 full-frame image that remains crisp and free of edge enhancement or pixelation. Nice, natural colors, too.

SOUND: 2.0 soundtrack that provides clear dialogue and bassy music.

MENUS: Slight animated main menu.

EXTRAS: House tour, cast bios.

Final Thoughts: Although this may provide a good one-time viewing for fans of the show, fans might find that the
Real World: Complete First Season box set - which doesn't cost much more than this 50 minute program - would probably be money better spent.
