Beautiful Girls
The Movie: Fortunately, the movie is good, otherwise, I would have kicked myself for spending good money on this DVD rather than another one with some special features and just a decent movie. I can't really put it better than the blurb on the back: "Smart, sexy, and a whole lot of fun!" I enjoyed this movie from start to finish and have even watched it again since I first saw it about a week ago. The movie is actually the only redeeming quality of this DVD - the picture and sound are good at best and there are no features. Just don't say I didn't warn you.
The Picture: The picture is good, no noticeable defects or problems. The film is only 3-4 years old, so getting a good print mustn't have been a problem and it can be seen in this transfer. I would have liked to see an anamorphic transfer (hence the downgrade in the picture rating).
The Sound: The sound is acceptable - there isn't any action to show off your surround system - and even if there were, it's only Dolby 2.0. Nonetheless, I couldn't find any problems with the sound, and there were no defaults I could hear.
The Extras: Extras?? Don't think so. The box lists Dolby Surround AND Chapter Search as the extras - pretty standard stuff if you ask me. Nothing here to write home about.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the disc doesn't feature anything spectacular, except for a good movie. The picture and sound are good, but not superb and there are no extras to speak of. Miramax has dubbed this one a part of their "Widescreen Series" - nothing special there and slapped a MSRP of $30 on it. Definitely not worth the price unless you love the movie or want to see Natalie Portman in one of her earlier movies.
