The Feature:
"Hello, I'm Dan Rydell alongside Casey McCall, all that an more as you are watching Sportsnight on CSC, so stick around." Sports Night is a show that has very little to do with sports. Much like the Larry Sanders, it's a program that is a mix of a fictional SportsCenter-esque show, mixed in with the antics of the people behind-the-scenes. Dan Rydell (Josh Charles) and Casey McCall (Peter Krause) star as the two anchors of the fictional sports show. Dana (Felicity Huffman), Natalie (Sabrina Lloyd), and Jeremy (Josh Malina) are all responsible for putting the live show on the air every night. All five of them are very strange people.

I don't believe in spoiling the main storylines in my reviews, but it would be hard pressed for me to offer an accurate review without delving into the characters. Dan is an insecure womanizer who has a tendency to chase women who really have no interest in him. Casey is a recent divorcee who has a crush on Dana, but is unable to make anything happen between them. Dana has a crush on Casey, but is unable to admit it to herself. Natalie has a big mouth that often gets her into trouble with Jeremy, her boyfriend. Jeremy, Natalie's boyfriend, is a nerd who is obsessed with the weather.

The DVD set consists of both seasons of the show, 45 episodes in total. Every episode is jammed-packed with quick-witted dialogue, as well as intriguing storylines. It's been said before that Sports Night is the quickest half hour (more like 22 minutes without commercials) on television… and you know what, that's an incredibly accurate assessment. I burned through the first eight episodes without pausing; and was left wondering what the hell happened to my afternoon.

Sports Night, a three-time Emmy Award Winner, is the brainchild of West Wing creator, Aaron Sorkin. If you enjoyed Larry Sanders, and other "dramadies" (mix of comedy/drama), then you are sure to enjoy Sports Night.

Video:
The episodes are presented in full frame 1.33:1.

Audio:
The audio is presented in Dolby 2.0.

Menus:
The Sports Night theme plays in the background, while your only options are "season episodes" (you can select any episode of the season), "captions", and "play all." Play all is definitely a godsend, as you don't have to go through the annoying drill of selecting episodes (like the Buffy sets).

Extras:
Nada, zip, zero. It would have been cool to have commentaries, maybe even a deleted scene or two; but hey, I'm just excited that Sports Night is on DVD.
