The DVD

SOUND: Silverline presents "Don't Worry About Me" in 96khz/24-bit DVD-Audio 5.1 for DVD-Audio capable players, along with Dolby Digital 5.1 for DVD-video players. This 5.1 presentation is very similar to other titles from the company, with the majority of the material coming from the front speakers, while the surrounds provide basic reinforcement, but nothing too noticable of their own.

Thankfully, the recent recording of the album makes for a surround sound presentation that, while not too inventive or as open/immersive as it could be, at least sounds very good. The guitars on the brilliant opener, a fast, punky remake of "What A Wonderful World", ring forth with fine clarity and force. Ramone's vocals sound decent coming from the front speakers, but they could be a bit more forward in the mix.

There's not much else to say, really. While this is an entertaining rock record and a superb solo effort from Joey Ramone, this DVD-Audio presentation seems like the bare basics - although there are a few supplements, the audio itself hardly makes any use of the surrounds and audio quality in general is very nice, if not too remarkable.

Extras include the "What a Wonderful World" video, a Ramone bio, a Ramone tribute (text) and producer's notes.

Final Thoughts: While the DVD-Audio likely does provide better quality than the CD, I felt as if more could have been done with the 5.1 presentation, as the surrounds are largely only used for some minor reinforcement of the music - nothing that's very noticable or effective. Those who don't have the CD and are looking to purchase the album should check out this edition, but I wouldn't recommend an upgrade for those who already have the CD.

Order "Joey Ramone: Don't Worry About Me" now!
