JAGGED EDGE Synopsis:

A grisly homicide…a sensational trial…a forbidden affair. Jeff bridges is the prime suspect and Glenn Close plays the attorney who falls in love with him. When a San Francisco socialite is murdered, her publisher-husband, Jack Forrester falls under immediate suspicion. Teddy Barnes (Close) decides to defend the charming & manipulative Jack & disregards legal ethics by having a torrid affair with him. With the help of Private eye Sam Ransom (Robert Loggia), Teddy takes on a ruthless DA (Peter Coyote) who's using this case as a political stepping stone. However, a startling revelation puts Teddy in Jeopardy of becoming the next victim of the JAGGED EDGE! That's the back of the box promo and it pretty succinctly nails the overall juicy meatty bits of the film. Jagged Edge is a mid- 80's thriller that's still got what it takes to make a good movie!

Audio:

The audio platform used is a 2 channel Dolby digital presentation that adequately portrays the films' subtle audio presence. As the film is dialogue driven, there's no need for an expansive surround platform. Additionally, the audio as presented offers crystal clear dialogue. For this type of film the 2-channel stereo platform is perfectly suited.

Video:

The video has been digitally remastered & anamorphically rendered. As such, you would think it would sparkle with clarity. Not so. The picture is beautiful, but not as powerfully stunning as most anamorphically rendered titles recently released. There were nicks & white flecks that appeared inconsistently but more that what I would have expected for this release. Overall, the video is clean but, those markings really could have been removed. For the casual viewer, this is an incredibly minor observation but for those ardent videophiles, these can be tedious transfer mistakes that can raise the blood pressure!

Extras:

The Extras on the disc are really just additional trailers for features that either Glenn Close or Jeff Bridges have starred in. Most notably, Air Force One & Arlington Road. Surprisingly enough, there is no trailer for the feature. If you have these discs already this is really not an extra. There are also the obligatory talent files & production notes. Nothing spectacular about them. Static presentations as usual.

Overall:

Jagged Edge is a really great thriller that has stood the test of time. The absolute best thing about the film however is Glenn Close's acting as the defense attorney in the courtroom. Her demeanor & delivery are presented with such conviction that you long for her courtroom crosses more than anything. Predictable, yes but in a nice way! Jagged Edge 15 years out is just as sharp as ever! Recommended.
