Alien Resurrection : Special Edition
Synopsis:
Ellen Ripley died fighting the perfect bio-mechanoid warrior/predator. Two hundred years later she's come back to do it one more time! A group of scientists have spliced Ripley's genes with that of the Alien, in an attempt to breed, the ultimate warrior! But the resurrected Ripley is chock full of surprises for her "creators"! Needless to say, Human interactions with the Alien even on a genetic level…not a good thing! Ripley joins forces with a band of intergalactic smugglers in an attempt to finally defeat the Aliens & the latest batch of bad guys. Non-stop action from start to finish, Alien Resurrection is the next level in both terror & excitement!
Audio:
The audio on Alien Resurrection is a blisteringly good 5.1 presentation that will leave your home theater warm from the experience! There is so much activity in the surrounds, center & sub that there isn't a minute in the entire film that your audio system won't be jumpin'! Of special note is the arrival of the "Betty" & it's subsequent docking with the USM Auriga in chapters two & five, The evacuation sequence in chapter 12, The water trap in chapter 17 & I could really go on & on about the specific audio segments & list the entirety of the disc. Suffice it to say, this discs' audio rocks! Another nice touch regarding the audio is the inclusion of the score from Alien within this feature. It's a really nice touch that plays very well & lends not only a touch of nostalgia but a touch of credibility as well. It really adds a lot to the presentation of the feature when it's employed.
Video:
The video is a beautifully mastered anamorphic transfer! The colors are bright & true, the blacks are deep & without any shimmer of pixelation. The transfer in a word is marvelous. It's an incredibly tight presentation that really delivers the goods & gives you a picture that in every sense of the word is crystalline. You won't be disappointed with this picture. One of the most visually pleasant segments is the water sequence were the aliens are chasing our heroes through an underwater obstacle course. The visual presentation is stunning, I assure you!
Extras:
As with all the discs in this particular set, the trailers for all the features are presented. Additionally, a 15-minute featurette is presented that carries interviews with the cast & crew & some behind the scenes footage as well. Entertaining but again, too short & not enough meat.
Overall:
Alien Resurrection didn't seem like it was going to be a good film. I had my reservations given the plot & storyline but, they pulled it off & very well I might say. I enjoyed the picture & think you will too. It's probably ranked as the next best entry after Alien & Aliens by most fans but I think it's placing as #4 in the series is perfect. Alien Resurrection is a great film full of all the excitement & fun we've come to expect from the Alien franchise!
