Apollo 13
The Movie:
Apollo 13 is one of the greatest Tom Hanks movies and is a fine example of film-making and DVD at it's best. The movie tells a great story of courage and overcoming obstacles and keeps the viewer constantly involved. Apollo 13 does a great job of generating suspense and the acting by Hanks, Paxton, Bacon, and Sinise is top-notch. I love this movie and upon repeated viewings, it just gets better.
The Picture:
Another in Universal Collector's Edition series, Apollo 13, like many other Universal DVDs features sharp colors and a great picture. From the lift off of the Apollo 13, to the breathtaking shots of the moon, Appollo 13 has one of the more picturesque and highquality pictures out there..
The Sound:
Crisp and clear, the sound is perfect. The explosions in space and shuttle lift-off scenes are great to show off your sound system to a friend or relative.
The Extras:
Being a Collector's Edition, this disc is jam-packed with extras. The making of Apollo 13 is especiall informative and provides great insight into the immense effort that went into the making ofr the film. Their are 2 audio commentary tracks both FANTASTIC - the first by Ron Howard, who is a pleasure to listen to and is higly entertaining; The other by Jim Lovell and Marilyn Lovell who provide a historical contexting that is simply amazing.
Conclusion:
This is definately a disc not to be missed and is one of the finest examples of why we love DVD. It is rare to find a disc that is so excellently produced all the way around, and is not only one to watch several times, but to share with friends.
