Although I'm sure that few from either side would like to re-live the roller-coaster of ups and downs that the election offers, there's still a new release of the "best" (for use of a better word) of CNN's live coverage. The hour-long special (apparently originally broadcast on the network) takes a look back at election night and the days that followed where we were all unsure of just what the outcome was going to be.
Interviews from those who were involved with the parties and the coverage recall their feelings and thoughts about the moments that went by during that night and the days that followed. Some of the comments are mildly interesting, and anything like this where people take you into what they were feeling during an important night like this one, there's some insightful tidbits. The behind-the-scenes footage of the network coverage that shows the on-air crew scrambling for information remains the most entertaining element.
It's all covered here, though: the confusing ballots of Florida, the re-counts and confusion of the first-night news coverage. I found this "highlight reel" interesting as it covered the events and provided analysis, although I can't see the documentary having much in the way of repeat viewing value. Well, except maybe the coverage bloopers at the end of the documentary.
VIDEO: The video presentation is full-frame and generally passable. It looks to me to be about as well-defined as broadcast quality, and there is the occasional shimmering and other slight problems. Sharpness and detail are gneerally good, with only some of the footage looking a little bit soft.
SOUND: The program remains mono consisting almost completely of interviews and the occasional slight music. Essentially delivers what's expected of audio for a program like this one, with fine clarity for the dialogue and narration.
MENUS:: Menus are non-animated, with very basic images serving as backgrounds. The main menu simply has two options: "Play" and "Scene Selections".
Positive: Those who found watching the election coverage interesting might enjoy this program.
Negative: There's nothing particularly special about the DVD; the price for the short program is a bit much at $19.99 and there's no extras or other features of note.
