Robert Redford's 1994 film focusing on the game show scandal of the 1950's. Stars Ralph Fiennes, John Tutturo.
The DVD VIDEO: Disney releases span a wide range of quality from sharp, bold images like "Enemy Of The State", to horrible "vhs looks good compared to this" releases such as "Flirting With Disaster". There's also a middle ground on releases like Oliver Stone's "Nixon". "Quiz Show" falls right between "Nixon" and "Flirting With Diaster", a little below average. This is a slightly hazy, muddy looking image that I don't even consider adequately "sharp". Detail is lacking throughout, but even a little more worrying is the colors on this disc, which not only bleed slightly, but look slightly pale and bland at times, fair at others.
Some slight grain is noticable, and shimmering makes a few very noticable appearances. There is a scratch or two on the print used as well. This is really another example of the lack of effort (or care, actually) that Disney puts into their DVD releases. I remember thinking this film was goregous when I saw it on the big screen. I found this image tiring and hard to watch on DVD. It's not a complete loss, but the first word that comes to mind is "blah."
SOUND: "Quiz Show" is all dialogue, and as such, it performs fine. Dialogue sounds clear and clean; music sounds pure and crisp. Nothing major, but certainly does the job it's asked to.
MENUS: The usual: basic Disney menus based on the cover art.
EXTRAS::A very odd trailer that's presented full-frame.
