DVD Savant: Diary of Anne Frank, Walk on the Wild Side and More
This week the DVD Savant takes a look at
The Diary of Anne Frank -
George Stevens' last great picture comes with a fascinating docu providing background to the story, Mrs. Miniver - William Wyler makes wartime propaganda, but can't help but turn it into a superior film, Walk on the Wild Side - Edward Dymtryk falls flat on his directorial face with this ill-conceived 'mature' mess of odd casting, muffed period detail and laughably censored adult subject matter, Diary of a Country Priest - Robert Bresson's moody story of faith and virtue abandoned to the petty cruelties of indifference is one of the best films about spirituality ever made. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
