Silent DVD: The Parson's Widow
This week, Silent DVD looks at The Parson's Widow, an early movie by
cinematic master Carl Theodor Dreyer. Known for his powerful and
emotional dramas, this feature is a departure from Dreyer's more well
known work; it’s a comedy. A young man can only marry his fiance after
he lands a job as a parson. He's happy when he gets a job offer, but
only until he learns about the catch: if he wants the job he has to
marry the previous parson's widow. This light movie may not sound like a typical Dreyer film, but it has a lot of the techniques and the narrative form that he would more fully explore in his later movies. Read Silent DVD now because 'not all great DVDs are in 5.1'.
