DVD Savant: We Were Strangers and The Mansion of Madness
This week the DVD Savant has a batch of new reviews including: We Were Strangers - John Huston's dark tale of revolution in 1933 Cuba is an obscure little masterpiece, The Magic Voyage of Sinbad & The Day the Earth Froze - a pair of Russian movies re-tooled for America during the Cold War, The Broadway Melody - the very first all-singing, all-dancing all talking musical, Smithereens - Susan Seidelman's breakthrough feature, The Mansion of Madness - Mexican horror gets a rebirth in Jose Lopez Moctezuma's La mansion de la locura, a weirded-out version of an Edgar Allan Poe story and Touchez pas au grisbi - a French underworld story from Criterion. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
