DVD Savant - Band Wagon, Call Northside 777 and Our Town
This week the DVD Savant has a ton of new reviews including: The Band Wagon - if this DVD doesn't cheer you up, nothing will, Come and Get It - Edna Ferber's best adaptation stars Edward Arnold, Walter Brennan and, in a heart-breaking double roll, Frances Farmer, Call Northside 777 - James Stewart stars in this noir lite; a "true" story in which all the facts have been changed to keep our institutions clean, Francis of Assisi - Bradford Dillman is the young Italian who turns his back on the material world to form a new sect, The Seagull's Laughter - A wonderfully droll comedy drama with fantastic overtones, Howards End - A superb period story about class differences and snobbery that won a pile of awards, Our Town - this 2003 PBS widescreen version features Paul Newman heading the cast of Thornton Wilder's timeless play, and it's a marvelous presentation and The Barbra Streisand Funny Girl-Funny Lady DVD Box Set Barbra Streisand's Fanny Brice films are newly repackaged, and Savant takes advantage of the opportunity to review Funny Girl. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
