DVD Savant - The Mysterians, Bringing Up Baby and Stage Door
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Mysterians - the screen explodes (repeatedly) with furious multicolored battles against the invaders from Mysteroid, who only want a few thousand acres of choice real estate and dating privileges with our women (gasp). Earth needs a good negotiator or at least better ray guns to defeat a titanic robot, flying saucers that sound like tuning forks, and a lethal battle dome equipped with the latest WMD's. Toho's best, in a great DVD package from Media Blasters/Tokyo Shock. Bringing Up Baby - the most famous screwball comedy is also one of Katharine Hepburn's best, with Cary Grant tagging along in helpless patsy mode. Arrowsmith John Ford was possibly not the right director for this wildly illogical melodrama about medical ethics and the sanctity of research and Stage Door - Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn shine in this backstage war-horse that gives talents like Ann Miller, Lucille Ball and Eve Arden plum parts as aspiring actresses. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
