DVD Savant: Val Lewton and Hitchcock Collections
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Val Lewton Collection - all 9 horror productions from the Sultan of Shudders ; The Flesh Eaters - a notoriously entertaining mini-budget shocker from 1964; Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection - a full reissue of supposedly "all digitally remastered" classics from the Master of Suspense; An Angel at my Table - Jane Campion's tribute to New Zealand writer Janet Frame; Bad Timing - a cerebral, somewhat off-putting story of a relationship gone very, very bad; Masculin feminin - Jean-Luc Godard on the unbalanced relationship between political ideals and consumer conventionality; The Outsiders: The Complete Novel - Francis Coppola drops the Ford and goes for the commercial hit with this well-made but overblown teen gang hit that has a dream cast of young male hopefuls. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
