Silent DVD: Unseen Cinema - Early American Avant Garde Film
Before Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack made King Kong, they made some very popular travel films. This week Silent DVD has a look at their first two films: Grass, the story of a migrant tribe in Persia, and Chang, a look at the lives of the natives of Siam. Both films are a glimpse into the past, showing a life style that no longer exists. We also have an in depth look at one of the most ambitious collections to ever be released on DVD: Unseen Cinema: Early American Avant Garde Film 1893 - 1941. This massive seven disc set features 155 unique and experimental films and does a wonderful job of tracing the origins of avant garde cinema. A must see for fans of early cinema.
