DVD Savant: A Canterbury Tale and Some Like it Hot
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: V for Vendetta -
The Wachowskis and James McTeigue bring us a faithful and spirited film version of the David Lloyd and Alan More graphic novel; Koko a Talking Gorilla - Barbet Schroeder's fascinating docu of linguists teaching a gorilla to talk in the late 1970s showed great promise; Beyond the Rocks - A complete (almost) 1922 Elinor Glynn romance directed by Sam Wood and starring Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino surfaced in a collector's horde of film in the Netherlands; A Canterbury Tale -
Powell & Pressburger's most "English" and most delicate masterpiece is an under-appreciated ode to a country at war, about three young people who don't realize that they're modern-day Pilgrims; The War Game & Culloden -
Peter Watkins' incendiary BBC docu-dramas, including the anti-nuke terror show that caused a furor in the English government and was blocked from exhibition for shady reasons; Some Like it Hot -
MGM-Sony gives us the decent special collector's edition we should have gotten three years ago.Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
