DVD Savant: Superman II, The Wicker Man and The Conformist
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Superman II The Richard Donner Cut - Warners reconstitutes most of Richard Donner's original "vision" of Superman II: A different beginning, a different ending, and more endearing performances from Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder; The Wicker Man (2-Disc Set) - Anchor Bay returns to Summerisle again, this time with the coveted long original cut of this superlative horror picture; The Conformist - Bernardo Bertolucci's breakthrough picture still dazzles, with images so beautiful we forget to read the subtitles; Dean Martin Double Feature - Dino exercises his comedy skills opposite Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh in Who Was That Lady?, and seduces Stella Stevens in How to Save a Marriage (And Ruin Your Life); The Wild Blue Yonder - Werner Herzog's spacey Sci Fi picture is an anti-cinematic collage of unrelated images poetically standing in for a cosmic space odyssey. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
