Silent DVD: Treasures III, A Cottage on Dartmoor, and Valentino
Silent DVD is packed this week with reviews of several recent releases. The American Film Archives third boxed set, Treasures III, includes 48 restored movies made between 1900 and 1934 that all deal with various social problems. Just as well done as the previous collections, this one is a 'must buy.' One of the greatest British films from the silent era has also made its way to DVD. Anthony Asquith's A Cottage on Dartmoor is a suspenseful film that is an early forerunner of film noir. We also have a look at a collection of four Valentino films, as well as a pair of documentaries about the quest to add sound and color to early movies: Discovering Cinema. Read all this and more in this week's Silent DVD
