DVD Savant: The Fall of the Roman Empire, A Passage to India, and The Kite Runner
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Fall of the Roman Empire - The Weinstein Company pulls out the stops for this Limited Collectors' Edition of what may be the most lavish costume epic ever filmed outside the Soviet Union. Stephen Boyd, Sophia Loren, Alec Guinness and Christopher Plummer lead an enormous cast; director Anthony Mann films some of the biggest sets ever constructed; A Passage to India (Blu-Ray) - Sony's Blu-ray edition of the David Lean classic adds a battery of good new featurettes with cast and crew, also in 1080 hi-def. The beautiful images of India are twice as pretty in the new format; and The Kite Runner - Khalid Hosseini's best-seller is one of the best films of 2007, a tale of personal atonement and cultural identity in a country invaded by the Soviets and oppressed by the Taliban. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
