DVD Savant: Big Trouble in Little China, Ulysses, and Elvis Presley
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Big Trouble in Little China [Blu-ray] - John Carpenter's brightest film gives us adventure and comedy in equal doses. A magical ghost declares war in San Francisco's Chinatown, prompting Kurt Russell to help in a subterranean rescue effort; Ulysses - Lionsgate brings forth one of the first U.S.-Italian co-productions of the early 1950s. Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn star with Silvana Mangano and Rossana Podestà in a dignified & sincere version of Homer's poem. With one of the better Cyclops in film history, too!; and Elvis Presley: The Ed Sullivan Shows: The Performances - September 1956. Elvis guests on Ed Sullivan's show and changes the course of American culture. What did viewers see that night, and for two more evenings in October and January? Original kinescopes reveal that the third show really does show Elvis only from the waist up. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
