DVD Savant: Cheri, The Tall Target, and Not Quite Hollywood
Chéri This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Cheri - Michelle Pfeiffer shines in Stephen Frear's detailed reconstruction of Paris in the early 1900s. But something about the film keeps us from getting fully involved; The Tall Target - Tough guy Dick Powell plays John Kennedy -- a real life New York policeman charged with protecting President-elect Abraham Lincoln. A tense train-bound thriller an a great period noir; and Not Quite Hollywood - Surely the most bizarre film docu ever made, Mark Hartley's chronicle of Australian exploitation filmmaking takes on a whirlwind tour of gross comedies, bloody horror pictures, outrageous action fare and uninhibited sex farces. And it's good film history as well. With input from an entire generation of Aussie filmmakers and many eye-popping high quality film clips. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
