DVD Savant: Willy Wonka, Jack the Ripper, and Karloff and Lugosi Horror Classics
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory [Blu-ray] - Tim Burton's version is okay, but there's no topping the 1971 original with the unique, quirky performance by Gene Wilder. Sly comedy, good performances and magical happenings ensue when Charlie Bucket gets that Golden Ticket; Jack the Ripper - Michael Caine's terrific performance highlights an exciting, lavishly produced and fairly authentic dramatization of Scotland Yard's pursuit of the motiveless butcher of prostitutes in London's Whitechapel disctrict. A three-hour two-disc miniseries co-starring Armand Assante, Jane Seymour and Susan George.; and Karloff and Lugosi Horror Classics - Boris and Bela are back and together, sort of, in one these four vintage monster romps: The Walking Dead, You'll Find Out, Zombies on Broadway, and Frankenstein 1970. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
