DVD Savant: Gimme Shelter, Taking Woodstock, and Mission to Moscow
Gimme Shelter This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Gimme Shelter [Blu-ray] - Criterion returns for a Blu-ray edition of the Maysles Brothers classic concert film, the one that records the misery of Altamont, and the end of the Summer of Love years; Taking Woodstock [Blu-ray] - Ang Lee's comedy drama of the behind-the-scenes genesis of the Woodstock festival becomes an amusing circus of hippie-era observations and historic recreation. Viewers of the concert movie will enjoy its interesting point of view; and Mission to Moscow - This jaw-dropping wartime propaganda movie about the Soviet Union tells more political lies than I've heard since Reagan was the governor of California! A shameless whitewash of Stalin's terror state, starring Walter Huston at the top of over a hundred speaking roles. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
