DVD Savant: Goodfellas, The Master Race, and The Music Man
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Goodfellas - Martin Scorsese's near-perfect gangster saga takes the genre in a new direction away from the glamour of post- Godfather tales. Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro and especially Joe Pesci are chilling as venal, horrible Brooklyn mobsters; The Master Race - A conniving Nazi takes on a new identity to foment unrest and rebellion in Allied-liberated Belgium. George Coulouris is excellent in this unusual example of leftist political predictions -- set in the post-war recovery period, this was written and filmed just after D-Day by Hollywood Ten casualty Herbert Biberman; and The Music Man - Warners' Blu-ray of the celebrated 1962 musical looks very, very good in HD. Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, and troublesome pool tables star. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
