Recent DVD reviews include: Betty Boop: The Essential Collection, Volume 3 - Olive Films' best collection of Max and Dave Fleischer cartoons to date; Riot in Cell Block 11 - a smart film that raises some issues to which there aren't a lot of easy answers and this Criterion Blu-ray is excellent in pretty much every regard; and Show Boat - a landmark film, one still quite emotionally powerful, adult, and captivating it just has to be seen.
