Some pretty cool discs have made their way to store shelves over the past couple of weeks. Check out these new titles: Hacksaw Ridge - Mel Gibson's big, slick, WW2 combat film tells the truly inspiring story of combat medic Desmond Doss, the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor and the only one to be awarded the honor during the war; Mildred Pierce: Criterion Collection - one of the most shattering mainstream dramas produced while the Hays Code was in effect, Michael Curtiz' film remains one of his most enduring and effective; and The Boy Friend - directed by Ken Russell in 1971, this take on Busby Berkeley style musical excess is an interesting film and foreshadows the visual excess that Russell will use in his movie Tommy.
