The Carpetbaggers Joe Levine's trashy sin 'n soap melodrama is so professionally assembled that it's too good to be camp, and too campy to be good. George Peppard musses up Carroll Baker, and they trade spicy innuendo, but the MPAA is off camera to police the morals & enforce a phony uplifting ending. With its overt Howard Hughes and Jean Harlow references, this one's a lot of fun on Paramount's flawless widescreen DVD.   4/26/03 Posted by DVD Savant at April 26, 2003 10:28 AM
