Richard Widmark is miscast, but Sidney Poitier's casting as a Moorish prince has to be seen to be disbelieved. This lavish
but underachieving attempt to revisit THE VIKINGS is mostly an embarrassing mishmosh, but taken at that level is a lot of
fun in a 'how could they be so stupid?' way. See silly hokum in the harum, a Norway that looks like sunny Yugoslavia,
and the nightmare-inducing Mare of Steel.
