Lola Jacques Demy's early career masterpiece tells the story of Roland Cassard of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg before he became a successful diamond merchant. This time there's Raoul Coutard's B&W images instead of wall-to-wall singing, but the film is still a slightly fantastic romantic delight.
