Werckmeister Harmonies Bela Tarr's symbolist tale of political upheaval in a Hunagarian town is one part interesting to three parts patience-trying. It's another art film narrative enamored of long takes and slow-burn meaningful staredowns. For those curious to find out why some critics are gaga over Tarr, it might be the ticket. Tarr said that the 35mm has a "technical censorship" built-in to the format -- the max camera load restricts him from making his shots longer.
