Phantom This is the best-looking film restoration from 1922 I've yet seen. F.W. Murnau's dizzy melodrama of a man sinking into shame and crime is highlighted by some astonishingly successful expressionist touches -- just when German filmmakers were learning to use their cameras to express psychological distortions.
